How it Works

The codes that are used in this site are called QR and Data Matrix codes, collectively known as 2D barcodes. They can be used to conceal words and/or numbers as a matrix of black and white squares. The information represented in this code can then be decoded by a mobile phone when/if required:

1) Using an online code-generator, a phrase, political slogan, URL, SMS, phone number etc. is translated into a QR or Data Matrix code:

2) This code can then be printed off and placed wherever you like.

3) Using a mobile phone, the code is scanned (very much like products scanned at the checkout in a grocery store) to decode the embedded information. This is enabled via an application on most new mobile phones (if you do not have this application on your phone, it can also be downloaded).

4) The decoded information will then appear on the phone's screen.

Further information on 2D barcodes can be found on the Kaywa website, especially in their QR Code Guide. To start making your own codes, or to download the barcode app for your mobile phone, check out the DIY section.
